How to Care for Embroidered Hebrew Pieces

Specific care preserves the embroidery and the structural integrity of the garment.

Washing

Wash cold (30°C / 86°F) on a delicate cycle. Turn the garment inside out before washing so the embroidery is on the inner face. Use a gentle detergent free of optical brighteners; bleach destroys both the denim colour and the embroidery thread.

Wash the piece alone or with similar weight items. Do not wash with rough items (jeans with metal hardware, zippered jackets that face the embroidery side) that can catch the stitches during the cycle.

Drying

Air-dry flat or on a wide padded hanger. Tumble drying shrinks the cotton ground unevenly around the embroidery and over time causes the stitches to pucker. If the garment must be dried by machine, use the lowest heat setting and remove while still slightly damp.

Ironing

Iron the garment inside out or place a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the embroidery. Never iron directly on the embroidered surface, as the heat can scorch the thread and flatten the texture that gives the embroidery its dimensionality.

Storage

Fold or hang in a dry, dark place. Long-term storage in plastic bags traps humidity and can mildew the cotton. For seasonal storage, wrap the piece in clean cotton fabric or place it in a breathable cotton storage bag.
