How to Choose Between Lion of Judah, Hamsa, and Star of David

Home › Couture Guides › Choose Between the Symbols
Three symbols, three different uses. Pick the one that fits the moment.

Lion of Judah

Use for moments of recognised strength. Bar Mitzvah, graduation, retirement, anniversary of a long marriage. The Lion declares lineage and inherited responsibility. It is the right symbol for a young man becoming responsible or an older man being honoured for the work he has carried. Not for moments of vulnerability.

Hamsa

Use for moments of protection. New baby, brit milah, illness recovery, mourning, new home, new country. The Hamsa wishes protection forward and is the cross-cultural symbol most accessible to non-Jewish recipients who still recognise its meaning. It is the right symbol for transitions and for vulnerability.

Star of David

Use for moments of public identity. Yom Ha'atzmaut, Hanukkah, Israel solidarity events, settled Jewish identity in everyday life. The Star of David carries the heaviest historical weight. It is for the wearer whose Jewish identity is settled and public.
